Laying low in Santa Fe

November 24, 2013
We’re staying here about two nights.  At least we were going to until we were snowed in.  I know, I know, you thought we were moving somewhere warm. We thought that too, but we’re not at that point yet. But wait until we get to California!  I made the most of the snow by eating a lot of it and stuff like that.  Time to go!

We haven't seen any substantial snow accumulation, but we hear the roads have been bad in Albuquerque.  Still not worth taking any chances.  We haven't had many "down days" since we left, so we are content to do nothing much.  Here is the view from the master bedroom this morning!

My day started by Scott telling me that the coffee machine was not working.  This was not what I wanted to hear, especially since I made sure I had plenty of cream!  Fortunately, Judie chimed in on my Facebook rant that it just could possibly be fixed. I got the toolbox for Scott and knew that I could find some coffee in the park office so, with my new insulated mugs, I made the short walk over with Scout.

I started to tie up Scout outside when the owner came out and told me a Scout was welcome inside.  They have a snack table that was all set up with several kinds of dog treats.  I smelled the freshly brewed coffee, filled up and was going to pay for another night here at the park and head back. Of course, I walked into the Saturday morning gathering and started chatting with the locals.  Everyone is so friendly and nice but that was probably because I was the youngest woman they had seen in awhile...LOL!  We had a nice chat about places to see and the owner even prepared some maps of his super secret, mountain top camping sites in AZ that he likes to go to that are on public lands.

I returned to the RV, the better part of an hour later, in a better mood to find out that Scott had fixed my coffee maker....yay! I guess he poured some vinegar thru and descaled it. It is working like a charm.  I think I need to go buy another Keurig just in case of equipment failure in the middle if nowhere! I got lucky this time.

Later on, I decided to go take a nice, long hot shower in the main building.  I know what you are thinking, public bathrooms? These bathrooms are immaculate.  I think that the competition is pretty stiff and there are so many $500k plus RVs that they have to cater to their owners.  Look what I found in the ladies room....vintage!

Scott did some reading, I helped the kids with their writing.  Each are writing their own version of how they are experiencing this trip.  It's all on the computer so when they are done, I will put the photos they want to include and make a nice published hard cover book for them with Shutterfly.  We also wrote out a bunch of postcards...check your mailboxes, maybe you got one!  All kids love gift shops, mine are no different. I have trained them to go right to the postcards. They usually pick out 3-4.  A couple make it into their scrapbooks and a couple are meant to send out...and, it's easy on the pocketbook!  I had some more photos printed off and got my Project Life book all up to date.

After another nice dinner made by Scott, we all played a dice game, Farkle.  It should be called Beat the Parents.  I don't think I even had a final score as I kept getting a "Farkle" and would lose all my points.  It's always nice to end the evening having some laughs with the kids.  I started reading "Hoot" by Carl Hiassen to the kids the other night so off to bed they go and I read them a chapter.

So many people have been sending me messages about how they are enjoying this blog.  I really appreciate the encouragement.  I spoke to my folks today and they look forward to hearing from us too...so even though we didn't do much today I still found plenty to write about! Plus, we don't want anyone worrying about us...especially when we are just parked!

Most likely we will stay here another night and then head to AZ on Monday.  We are not sure where we will be for Thanksgiving yet, but would love to go volunteer somewhere....we'll see.

  1. I love that the kids are keeping their own journals! Those will prove to be so memorable and necessary for them later in their lives!
