Yesterday was a driving day. We left Cave City, KY for the 300 mile trip to Memphis, TN and Graceland. We arrived, set up had dinner and just hung out. We are getting into a good groove of traveling and then stopping to enjoy where we are. I believe the high in Memphis was at least 65 degrees yesterday.
We awoke to a chilly morning, 39 degrees, and I had to dig out the winter coats again. Could be worse, I suppose, as I was seeing photos of SNOW in New England! We are staying right next door to Graceland so it was an easy walk over. Scout was comfortable in the RV and I honestly believe he enjoyed a few hours of quiet time. He normally sleeps most of the day at home, but, while we are driving, he is mostly awake. He is usually the first one to crash for the night. We had a great time touring the Mansion, Elvis' car collection and 2 airplanes. They gave us audio headsets that walked us thru the mansion at our own pace. The great thing about traveling at this time of year is that we are enjoying these popular destinations with little to no crowds. I can only imagine what a zoo this place must be in the summer!
We’re going to Graceland! Memphis Tennessee! Wow, I've always wanted to say that! Oh the pain! We got to get to the RV Park first! At least it wasn't much of a drive. Brrrrr! I got to help my Dad plug in and its freezing! Well we screwed everything in, and my Dad his beer, so I think it's time to go to sleep. I wish it was easier to sleep. I couldn't sleep at all with those visions of Graceland dancing in my head! Wait is it morning already? Ah well. All I could hear the whole morning was the sweet sound that no known child has escaped. The sound of nagging. It's like a magical curse that makes you do things twice as slow, and the only way to break it is to finish your work. Eventually I finished, and a little while after that, we were off to Graceland (Elvis Presley's House). There was this bridge that we crossed, and it had so much graffiti that my Mom had to take a picture.
When we got our tickets, I looked back and a giant line formed. We beat the crowd by a second. Ok, let’s get onto the tour bus! What was cool was that the guide was a thing that you listen to with headphones. The bus took us to Graceland and it looked so cool! We went in and I don’t want to give everything away but there was this awesome room and it was called the Jungle room. Obviously, it looked like a Jungle. There were chairs that looked like a leopards coat and a green rug. There were plants and stuffed animals too. It also has a waterfall in it and was a recording studio. That’s all I'm going to say about what I saw, but I will give you facts from the internet about Graceland in general. Graceland gets about 600,000 visitors per year. Graceland has twenty-three rooms, eight of them are bedrooms, and another eight are bathrooms. Graceland is a National Historic Landmark. That’s all for Graceland folks!

Scott has been really good about preparing our own food. We absolutely refuse to eat at any fast food joint unless in an emergency! We are definitely due for another grocery run so we are going to dine out tonight at Marlowes for BBQ. The person that recommended it said it was on the Food Network Show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. They have a free service where they pick you up and drive you to the restaurant…in a pink limo! The kids thought that was pretty fun! After a huge BBQ rib meal and a Krispy Kreme Banana’s Foster for dessert and I don’t want to eat out for at least another week!
We wrapped up the evening after a full day of Elvis immersion watching "Blue Hawaii".
If someone had told me a couple of months ago that I would be doing my laundry in an RV park at Graceland, I would have never believed it and probably would have bet them a million dollars that it would never happen! Well here I am…and lovin’ it!

Graceland.....How cool. Love the photos, I want pics of all these meals Scott is preparing.... And as for the laundry? You can meet VERY interesting characters at a laundry mat. This is the one time in your life you WANT to talk to strangers, don't forget your camera....
ReplyDeletemy2wildthings by the way is Kelly Blackadar.....lol
DeleteOMG...I was wondering who it was LOL....thanks for telling me! We do have meal photos. You need to like Scotts Facebook page.
DeleteI admit I would love to see Graceland. Elvis was such a huge influence on music and our culture but, was a puzzling enigma. His death was a result of his never ending insecurities despite a world that loved and admired him. Tragic.
