Albuquerque, NM

November 20, 2013

I woke up to a beautiful sunrise in Albuquerque.

We are at another high rated RV Park with really nice shower facilities…all marble and granite.  I packed my things and headed over for a nice long, hot shower…alone!  As I was packing up my small bag of things, I thought, should I bring my phone? Then I said, why? So I left it in the RV.  I’m enjoying this huge, steamy shower and some time alone when I reach for my towel.  I feel like such a rookie! 2 weeks on the road and I forgot to bring my towel.  Nothing like drying off in last nights t-shirt!

We’re in Abilcorkay!  I mean Albuquerque.  Wow, say that three times fast, or type it!  We went to Old Town and we walked around, going in shops.  There was only one thing we were in search for: Cowboy hats.  We found a store called Covered Wagon.  We went in and spotted our prey.  There they were, sitting on their shelves.  We took a pounce and started trying them on.  The first was too big, and the second to small, but the last one was just right.  After we bought them all, we went to a Mexican restaurant.  Just like all the stores, it was pet friendly.  We just had to bring Scout through the back and eat outside.  Well, I guess we should sleep and hit the road again.

We headed out to Old Town Albuquerque.  The kids thought it was fake…like a movie set! We brought Scout along for a walk and to our surprise he was welcomed wherever we went.

Jack , Scott and Scout took a break in front of the Covered Wagon Gift Shop and chatted with all the locals while Tyler and I wandered around a bit more so I could grab some more photos.  We all bought cowboy hats too!  Lots of Breaking Bad memorabilia around too!

On the north side of the plaza is the San Felipe de Neri Church, the oldest building in the city, which was built in 1793. Surrounding the church, the city's settlers had built their homes, shops and government offices, many of which have since been converted into the restaurants, art galleries and shops that comprise Old Town today.

We all love authentic Mexican food, so we took a local up on her suggestion of the Church St. Cafe for lunch.  The house it is in was built at the same time as the church.  Scout was also a welcomed lunch guest and we dined outside in their courtyard.

We left and found our way to another campsite, this one a bit more rustic but very quiet.  We ended the night playing Bananagrams and You Gotta be Kidding with the kids.  (thanks for the games Kelly!) The 2nd game was so funny, it is all questions that begin with “Would you rather…”  one of my cards that I thought was very fitting of my morning was…  Would you rather get out of the shower on a freezing morning and find there is nothing but a small wet washcloth to dry with -OR- find nothing but a box of tissues?

The one thing I have really noticed about this RV travel is that it does not really matter where you park it.  We have created our own unique portable environment, a bubble in effect.  Although the scenery changes daily, the feeling of home is always present and consistent.  I think that is what truly is making this such a nice experience for all of us. No one is homesick, nothing is missing.

Anyway…lots of laughs to end another nice day in New Mexico!  Two weeks on the road so far! Still lots more to check out in this area...Santa Fe, Taos and a bird migration that my fellow photography friends would be so mad if I missed!!
