Cave City, KY

November 11, 2013

I loved yesterday! We woke up in Cave City, KY and spent the day exploring Diamond Caverns.

We had heard this particular cave was “prettier” than the Mammoth Caves down the street.  We were not disappointed.  The kids got a nice science lesson as were toured the caves.  For more info http://www.diamondcaverns.com/science.html

After the tour, the kids bought a bag of dirt and and had a chance to “pan for gemstones”. They got quite a loot!  We had a nice lunch in the RV (Thanks Richie for the bag of BBQ unmentionables that were to die for!)

We're here! Cave City, KY. I left out the driving out for a reason you know. We went to see a cave called Diamond Caverns. It was a while wait, so we got to explore the gift shop and play in the arcade.  Finally, when the time came, we got to go into the caves. I was a little bit scared of the.....lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh My! Anyway...Our tour guide took us into the cave and I could hear the drops coming down, and our own footsteps, so I called out: ECHO! Nothing. The group laughed and the tour guide said she'd tell me when it would work. She showed us so many cave structures. There was even cave bacon! We saw some crickets and other bugs too! She said I could echo now, so I did. It worked!  When we got out of the cave we took a break. Then we saw a trail.
We took our bikes of the rack and went for a little ride. There was loose rock and I almost fell a couple of times, but my brother actually did. After that, we went back. I was kind of relieved because we were about to have to bike up a steep hill with roots, rocks, trees, and on top of that, more loose rock. So we went back, I almost slipped a couple times more and I was the first to get back. I saw panning for minerals. I told him and it woke him right up from his grumpy mood. We got rocks of all colors.  There was blue, pink, purple, green, orange and more! Time to hit the road again!

Scott and the kids took off for a quick bike ride and I enjoyed a bit of time alone with Scout….ahhh the quiet was nice!  Back at the camp Scott started on dinner while I biked with the kids.  We went exploring some quiet KY backroads and I found my sunset spot.  Lots of laughs at dinner and another day comes to a close.
