Bardstown, KY

November 10, 2013

So excited yesterday morning that we had a special visitor come and bring us breakfast at the campground we were staying at. It was my photographer friend, Kim Kruer!  After being online friends for years, I finally was able to meet her in Boston this summer and was so happy to see her again today! She brought a yummy hot breakfast and all kinds of Kentucky “goodies” for us to take on the road!  Kim, Tyler had one word for the pumpkin roll….SCRUMPTIOUS!

We hit the road and traveled to Bardstown, KY (the Bourbon Capital of the world) and visited the Civil War Museum along with the 11 log cabin settlement dating back 150-200 years. I remember doing these types of educational things with my parents and now we have come full circle doing it with our own kids! We call it Saturday School!  They had fun and got a chance to run around and burn off some energy. We continued on to Cave City and checked into a campground.  I must say, everyone has been super friendly along the way.  We really are enjoying our trip and this motorhome.  This is a great lifestyle to have no schedule and a flexible, make-it-up as you go itinerary.

Today, we are off to check out the Mammoth Caves…I haven’t been here since I was at least 10!  We will spend another night here and have a much needed driving rest!

Thanks for following.

My friend, Kim Kruer

Welcome to Kentucky! Breakfast should be good. My Mom’s friend’s bringing it over. She met her on Facebook and she does photography just like my Mom. Her name is Kim Kruer. So we had breakfast, she left after a little, and we hung out in the RV for a while. Then we were off again. To the Civil War Museum! There was a pioneer village next to the museum, but we’d go there after. We went in, got the tickets, blah blah blah. In the Civil War Museum, there were cannons, guns, uniforms, paintings and a lot more. One thing pretty creepy was a display of a doctor. He had something that looked like a butcher’s knife and he cut of a dude’s leg and there was blood everywhere! Naturally, I barfed in my mouth about five times, but I was fine. I don't think that legless dude was though……
Now, onto the pioneer village. We walked right down to that little village and obviously visited every building. There were houses, a baker, a blacksmith, a tavern, and more. I don’t want to bore you, but there was a bridge going over a creek. I think I like the museum a teensy weensy bit better because the pioneer village only said what the buildings were for, but the museum had more information. It did look pretty cool though.
